Durand Cup 2025: East Bengal kicks off tournament with 5-0 victory over South United

East Bengal got its Durand Cup campaign off to a positive start with a 5-0 victory over South United FC in the tournament opener at the Salt Lake Stadium on Wednesday

Chungnunga opened the scoring for the Kolkata giant in the 12th minute, unleashing a clean strike with his right foot that found the top left corner of the net.

Spanish midfielder Saul Crespo doubled East Bengal’s lead in the 37th minute, converting a penalty awarded to his team.

Second-half substitute and new signing Bipin Singh extended the advantage to 3-0 in the 79th minute. He latched onto a brilliant through ball from Dimitros Diamantakos, expertly slotting it home.

The Greek striker, Diamantakos, then got on the scoresheet himself, converting a free-kick that slipped through the hands of SUFC custodian Nishanth N.

In the final minute of regular time, East Bengal captain Mahesh capped off a stellar team performance with a stunning right-footed shot from outside the box, securing a comprehensive 5-0 win for his side.
