East Bengal notched up consecutive wins in the Calcutta Football League after beating BSS Sporting 6-0 at Barrackpore‘s Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay Stadium on Tuesday.
This victory comes after the Red and Gold Brigade had beaten archrival Mohun Bagan Super Giant 3-2 in the CFL’s Kolkata Derby to break a winless streak in the competition.
East Bengal jumps to third place in Group A after the win and now has 11 points from six matches. The top three teams in the group will advance to the Super Six round.
Chaku Mandi, David Lalhlansanga, Muhammed Ashiq, Naseeb Rahman, Mark Zothanpuia, and Guite Vanlalpeka bagged a goal apiece for the Bino George-coached side.
Goals from Mandi, Lalhlalsanga, and Ashiq gave East Bengal a comfortable three-goal lead at half-time, before strikes from Rahman, Zothanpuia, and Vanlalpeka secured a thumping win for the side.
In East Bengal’s previous outing in the CFL, Lalhlansanga had netted the winner after Mohun Bagan had clawed its way back from trailing by two goals. Kiyan Nassiri and Leewan Castanha had scored for the Mariners after Jesin TK and Sayan Banerjee had netted in the first half for the Red and Gold.
