Bengaluru FC has indefinitely suspended the salary of first-team players and staff amid the uncertainty surrounding the future of Indian Super League, the club said in a statement on Monday.
“Running and sustaining a football club in India has always been an uphill climb, one that we have put everything aside and made, season after season. However, the lack of clarity on the League’s future leaves us with no choice but to take this step. The future and well-being of our players, staff and their families is of utmost importance to us, and we are in touch with them as we wait for a resolution,” said the club in its statement.
“The Club remains committed to growing and developing the sport and our operations with our youth teams – men and women, and BFC Soccer Schools remain unaffected by this decision. We urge the AIFF [All India Football Federation] and FSDL to end this impasse swiftly. The uncertainty benefits no one, and a prompt resolution is vital for the future of Indian football,” added Bengaluru FC.
On July 11, the league’s organiser Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) announced that the ISL 2025–26 season had been placed “on hold” due to unresolved contractual issues.
The following day, AIFF said it would take all necessary steps to ensure the continuity of the ISL.
The existing MRA between FSDL and AIFF, which underpins the structure, operations, and commercial framework of the ISL, is set to expire on December 8.
The league, typically played between September and April, would be underway by then, with teams and broadcasters requiring long-term clarity to plan logistics and commercial activations.
As per the latest development, AIFF will meet with CEOs from eight Indian Super League clubs on Thursday in New Delhi to discuss issues regarding Indian football.
