Robinson Blandon Rendon struck in the second half to pull off an unlikely win for Bodoland over Punjab FC at the SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar in Group-D of the Durand Cup on Saturday.
The reverse also drew curtains over Punjab FC’s hopes of making the quarterfinals. The side ended with four points after three games.
Punjab FC immediately took the initiative with Nikhil Prabhu leading from the back and threading passes into midfield where Princeton Rebello pulled the strings. On the wings, Vishal and Suhail probed for openings, keeping Bodoland pinned in their own half during the opening exchanges.
The turning point came in the second half when Gwgwmsar Gayary delivered a teasing cross into the Punjab box. Amid the scramble, Colombian striker Rendon latched onto the rebound and rifled the ball past goalkeeper Ravi Kumar, sending the home fans into jubilation.
