Liverpool marks Premier League opener against Bournemouth with touching tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva

Liverpool marked its opening fixture of the 2025-26 Premier League season against Bournemouth with a tribute to its former striker Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. 

A minute of silence was observed around Anfield before the match began. 

The Liverpool fans also provided a moving tribute to their former No. 20, arranging themselves with red and white placards in order to spell ‘DJ20’ and ‘AS30’ in honour of the two players during the moment of silence.

Fans also delivered an emotional rendition of Liverpool’s famous song, You’ll Never Walk Alone as the two sets of players lined up together, and round of applause on 20 minutes.

Both former professional footballers, Jota and Silva tragically passed away in a car accident in Spain in July.

Liverpool has already made a number of tributes to the pair, including retiring Jota’s No. 20 jersey. A moment of silence was also held before the Reds’ Community Shield final against Crystal Palace on Sunday, while Liverpool fans also applauded at the 20-minute mark.  

The Premier League has also confirmed that a moment of silence will be held before all first-round fixtures as the competition gets underway over the weekend.
