Liverpool on Friday announced the signing of defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma. The move is, however, still subject to international clearance and a successful work permit application.
The club did not announce the transfer fee and details of Leoni’s contract.
The 18-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough year in Italy’s top flight during the 2024-25 season, during which he made 17 appearances.
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s a really great sensation and I’m honoured to be here,” he said.
Leoni is the latest addition to manager Arne Slot’s squad, with the club having signed Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, taking its total spending to over £300 million.
“Yeah, a lot [of excitement]. I’m so honoured. I was very happy [about Liverpool being interested]. When I saw this I said, ‘Wow, this is crazy.’ I’m very happy.
“I want to improve a lot with my new teammates in training and after on the pitch, in the Premier League and the Champions League,” Leoni added.
Defending champion Liverpool opens its campaign against Bournemouth later on Friday at Anfield.
