Deftones Blocked From A Second Career No. 1 Smash

Later this week, the rock band Deftones will release Private Music, its first new album in five years. The group has been promoting the forthcoming set with a handful of singles, both of which have become big wins on a number of Billboard charts.

This week, just days before the full-length arrives, the outfit scores a new smash with “Milk of the Madonna,” which almost helps the outfit double its total number of champions on one chart.

“Milk of the Madonna” Launches at No. 2

“Milk of the Madonna” opens on a number of Billboard lists focused on rock music, and it performs the best on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. On that ranking, Deftones launches its latest tune at No. 2. Another newcomer, “Specter” by Bad Omens, beats Deftones to the top spot as that single launches in first place.

Deftones Almost Chart a Second No. 1

Deftones reached No. 1 on the Hot Hard Rock Songs chart for the very first time just a month ago. “My Mind Is a Mountain,” the lead single from Private Music, debuted at No. 1, and it has thus far spent five frames somewhere on the tally of the most consumed hard rock cuts in the country. At the moment, it appears at No. 5, up several slots from last time around.

A Dozen Hot Hard Rock Songs Chart Hits

Throughout the years, Deftones have sent 12 tracks to the Hot Hard Rock Songs tally, and half of those have made it into the uppermost region. In addition to both “My Mind Is a Mountain” and “Milk of the Madonna,” “Ohms,” “Genesis,” “Ceremony,” and “Urantia” also became top 10 successes, peaking at Nos. 2, 3, 9, and 10, respectively.

“Milk of the Madonna” Debuts Inside the Top 10

“Milk of the Madonna” manages to open inside the top 10 on three of the six Billboard lists on which it debuts. In addition to the Hot Hard Rock Songs ranking, the cut also becomes a top 10 smash on the Alternative Digital Song Sales and Hard Rock Digital Song Sales charts, where it begins its time at Nos. 7 and 10, respectively.

The single is another win for Deftones on three other general consumption lists as well. “Milk of the Madonna” debuts at No. 19 on both the Hot Rock Songs and Hot Alternative Songs tallies, and at No. 23 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart.
