Barbados Royals pulled off a stunning heist to claim its third straight Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) crown, edging Guyana Amazon Warriors by three wickets in Bridgetown on Wednesday.
Chasing 137, the Royals were staring at defeat when they needed 27 off 16 balls with only three wickets in hand. Walking in under immense pressure, Shreyanka Patil — batting for the first time in this tournament — reversed her fortunes and her team’s. Facing the hat-trick ball, she unfurled consecutive reverse hits to break the tension, making a quick 10 off six deliveries. Her bold cameo set the stage for Aaliyah Alleyne, who effectively sealed the chase with a four and a six in the penultimate over.
Earlier, Warriors posted 136 for 3, built on knocks from captain Shemaine Campbelle (28) and Amy Hunter (29), while Ashmini Munisar’s 3 for 21 gave them real hope. But it wasn’t enough to stop the Royals’ late surge.
For Patil, the moment capped a tortuous year. Since fracturing a finger in July 2024, the 21-year-old off-spinner endured shin splints, a wrist stress reaction, and a fractured thumb, each setback delaying her comeback. The Royals’ triumph offered both redemption and reassurance for the former WPL Purple Cap winner, who has failed to make the cut for India’s ODI World Cup squad.
