Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas filed his nomination as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday.
Manhas, 45, has been an administrator with the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association since 2021 as he is part of the sub-committee formed by the Board. “We unanimously decided to nominate him (Manhas) as the president,” said Rajeev Shukla, who also filed his nomination for the position of vice-president, a post he has been holding for the last three years.
“Since Manhas is a former player, it was decided to make him the president,” Shukla added.
Manhas has played 157 first-class matches and scored 9,714 runs in a career spanning 18 years.
He has also played in the IPL for franchises like Delhi Daredevils and is currently an assistant coach at Gujarat Titans.
The BCCI officials gathered in New Delhi on Saturday night where it was decided that Manhas would be projected as the head of the Board, succeeding Roger Binny. Along with him, former Test cricketer Raghuram Bhatt (KSCA) filed for the position of treasurer, while incumbent secretary Devajit Saikia put his nomination for the post for another term. “I have been the secretary for the last few months and my colleagues wanted me to file the nomination. So, I filed the nomination,” Saikia said.
The other members who put their nomination were Prabhtej Bhatia (joint secretary), Arun Singh Dhumal (IPL Governing Council chairman) and Jaydev Shah (apex council member).
The AGM will be held at the Board’s headquarters on September 28.
