Ballon d’or 2025: Enrique, Wiegman win Johan Cruyff Trophy for coach of the year

Paris Saint-Germain’s Luis Enrique and England’s Sarina Wiegman won the Johan Cruyff Trophy for best male and female coaches, respectively, at the Ballon d’Or 2025 ceremony in Paris on Monday.

Under Enrique, PSG has a historic 2024-25 season as it won the French League, Coupe de France, a first-ever UEFA Champions League title and the UEFA Super Cup.

Wiegman led England to its second women’s European Championship title in a row.

“What an honour to get this award after a very special summer. It was an even more insane tournament that we had at the Euros in Switzerland,” Wiegman said after winning the award.

“I would like to thank the players, the staff, the FA and my family for the hard work and unconditional support I got from them.

“The women’s game has grown so far, we have broken records. This is not just a personal honour, I see it as a reflection of the women’s game; we have come so far.

“With that growth, we have responsibility and we have to try and keep our identity, being authentic and inclusive. I hope we will keep fighting against misogyny and racism. Football should always unite and never divide,” she added.

Enrique could not attend the ceremony as he was in Marseille for the postponed Ligue 1 clash (where PSG lost 0-1), but thanked his team for all the support in a pre-recorded message.
