IPL: Rajasthan Royals parts ways with fielding coach Dishant Yagnik

Leading up to the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rajasthan Royals has parted ways with one of its old coaching staff, Dishant Yagnik.

A former Rajasthan wicketkeeper-batter, Yagnik was with the franchise since 2018 as the fielding coach.

During his long stint with the Royals, Yagnik worked extensively with the Indian and overseas players.

After a poor finish in the last edition of the IPL, Royals has been witnessing a sea-change, with Rahul Dravid moving on as the head coach and Kumar Sangakkara set to be reinstated at the helm.

Sportstar understands that Vikram Rathour and Shane Bond are likely to continue as the batting and bowling coaches respectively.

Yagnik is also an assistant coach with Jammu and Kashmir team in the domestic tournaments, and last season, he had a key role to play as the team qualified to the quarterfinals of the Ranji Trophy.

For the Royals, the biggest challenge will be to sort out the captaincy issue as there seems to be trouble brewing over who would lead the team, following reports that Sanju Samson is not keen on staying back at the franchise.

However, ahead of the auction, Sangakkara and the team management need to decide on the potential captaincy choice and also regroup. Despite a few noted names in its squad – including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel – the Royals struggled in the tournament last year, and this time around, it will be a huge challenge for Sangakkara to get things back on track.

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings also needs to look for a new bowling coach as former India spinner Sunil Joshi is set to take over as the bowling coach of the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Joshi was associated with the Punjab Kings for the last couple of years.
