BCCI raises strong objection over Asia Cup trophy fiasco – reports

The BCCI raised ‘strong objection’ to the Asian Cricket Council’s decision not to present a trophy to India after the Asia Cup 2025 final, during the Annual General Body meeting of the continental body on Tuesday, reports said.

India was not awarded the trophy on Sunday after it refused to take the silverware from Mohsin Naqvi, the ACC Chairman and the Interior Minister of Pakistan.

BCCI vice President Rajeev Shukla and former treasurer Ashish Shelar were the Board representatives in the AGM in Dubai.

It is understood that Shukla questioned the Chairman about the trophy, but there was no decision taken on the matter. A final decision will be taken by the ACC’s Test playing nations.

Post-match proceedings turned chaotic on the day of the final. Pakistan players delayed the presentation ceremony for more than an hour after the final ball.

Once the ceremony ended, Suryakumar carried an “imaginary” trophy and mimicked Rohit Sharma’s slow walk from last year’s T20 World Cup final.

The squad followed up with mock trophy lifts for the fans and cameras before resuming celebrations in the dressing room. Several players later shared photoshopped images of themselves holding a trophy on social media.
