Former Delhi captain and Jammu and Kashmir’s cricket administrator Mithun Manhas has emerged as a strong contender for the president’s post at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
On Saturday, former India spinner and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Raghuram Bhat and Manhas were among the administrators who gathered in New Delhi on Saturday for an informal meeting ahead of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting.
With Sunday being the last day for filing the nominations, some of the administrators and key decision makers got together in the national capital to finalise the candidates for the vacant posts in the Board.
While there were speculations that the 67-year-old Bhat, who has played two Tests for India, was in the fray for the president role, his presence in the meeting has only added fuel to the fire.
But it has emerged that former Delhi cricketer Manhas, who is also an administrator with Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association, is in contention for a plum position in the Board.

It needs to be seen whether Bhat, whose tenure as KSCA president will end on September 30, could be drafted into one of the vacant positions.
Though there were talks that former India captain and erstwhile BCCI president Sourav Ganguly could be considered for the top job, sources have indicated that he wasn’t called to the national capital for the meeting.
During his tenure at the KSCA, a stampede during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s IPL victory celebration led to several deaths. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium also missed out on hosting the ICC Women’s World Cup matches and other fixtures.
