King Cup: Al Nassr thumps Jeddah 4-0 in Round of 32 clash as Ronaldo watches from bench

Al Nassr steamrolled over Jeddah, clinching a 4-0 win in their King Cup match at the Prince Abdullah AlFaisal Sports City on Wednesday.

The Riyadh-based team started as the heavy favourite against the second division side, which is probably why Jorge Jesus kept all his big stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Kingsley Coman, and Joao Felix on the bench.

While Coman, Mane, and Felix came off the bench to play their part in the clash, the Al Nassr manager gave complete rest to Ronaldo, as he remained an unused substitute.

Under pressure of playing against a heavyweight like Al Nassr, Jeddah had the worst start possible after defender Faisal Othman put the ball inside his own net in the fifth minute.

Al Nassr’s dominance was clear in the number of shots it took at goal and the possession it enjoyed throughout the clash. While Jesus’ men had 14 shots on target, they finished the match with 72 per cent of the ball.

Jeddah kept Al Nassr’s lead to just one before half-time, but the floodgates opened in the second 45.

Wesley doubled Al Nassr’s lead in the 61st minute after being set up by Abdulrahman Ghareeb.

Despite a two-goal lead, Jesus did not sit back, sending Mane, Felix, and Coman in a bid to see his team score more goals.

Coman and Felix made an impact within eight minutes of their substitution, with the latter scoring and the Frenchman assisting.

In the 89th minute, Felix turned provider as he set up Mohamed Simakan, who scored Al Nassr’s fourth to complete the rout.

Al Nassr will next play Al Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League, while Jeddah will travel for an away clash against Al Jabalain in the Saudi First Division League.
