K.L. Rahul brought up his second Test century on home soil during day two of the opening Test against West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday.
The opener reached the three-figure mark in 190 balls during the 65th over of the match, taking a single against West Indes skipper Roston Chase to complete the milestone.
His only previous hundred in India came nine years ago against England, when he fell agonisingly short of a double with 199 in Chennai.
Rahul had an early slice of luck on 57. In the first over of the day, he edged a full delivery that straightened off the pitch, but the ball flew between wicketkeeper and first slip. With the slip positioned wider than usual, West Indies missed a crucial chance, allowing Rahul to carry on and make it count.
This is Rahul’s 11th Test hundred and his second First-Class ton in a week, following upon a match-winning final-innings 176 against Australia A in an unofficial Test in Lucknow.
