IND vs WI, 1st Test: Dhruv Jurel scores his first Test hundred

Indian wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel scored his first Test hundred during his side’s series opener against West Indies in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Jurel got to his hundred on the second day of the Test with a four against West Indies skipper Roston Chase off the 190th delivery he faced in the innings.

The 24-year-old walked in to bat in the morning session, at No. 5, after the dismissal of his skipper Shubman Gill.

Jurel took his time to get himself going, scoring his first four only off the 38th delivery he faced. He then went onto to put on a composed partnership with Ravindra Jadeja for the fifth wicket, after India lost KL Rahul immediately after Lunch.

The right-handed batter saw through West Indian spinners’ ploy of exploiting the rough outside the leg stump as he defended steadfastly.

Jurel found his rhythm soon, depositing Chase over the mid-wicket fence for two sixes.

Against the second new ball, Jurel continued his watchful approach to set himself on the way to his maiden Test hundred.
