Former India women’s captain Shantha Rangaswamy is set to be elected unopposed as the president of the Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA).
Rangaswamy, who was the first captain of the Indian women’s team and also an erstwhile apex council member of the BCCI, will become the first woman cricketer to head the ICA.
“It’s an honour to lead the ICA, more so, as the first lady president. It comes with enormous responsibility, and with the support of the ICA members, the BCCI, we will look to increase the welfare measures of the members,” Rangaswamy told Sportstar.
While Rangaswamy will be the president, former cricketer and curator Venkat Sundaram is set to be elected unopposed as the secretary, while Deepak Jain from Rajasthan will be the treasurer.
However, there will be online voting on October 15 and 16 for the two positions of ICA member representatives, which will be contested by Santhosh Subramaniam, Jyoti Thatte and Nilima Joglekar. However, it is understood that Joglekar could withdraw her nomination and contest for the representative position from Maharashtra Cricket Association.
There will be contests for one male ICA representative nominee to the BCCI apex council, and the two contenders are Chamundeswara Nath and Rajesh Jadeja, while for the female representative to the apex council, the two contestants are Sudha Shah from Tamil Nadu and Prithvi Bandekar from Goa.
Meanwhile, former India captain Shubhangi Kulkarni will continue as the representative to the IPL Governing Council, which is headed by Arun Dhumal.
