Former Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba to retire from professional football at the end of the season

Decorated full-back Jordi Alba has announced that he will retire from professional football at the end of the ongoing season.

Spanish full-back Alba has been playing for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer since 2023. In that time, he registered 14 goals and 38 assists, and was involved as Inter Miami won the Leagues Cup and Supporters’ Shield.

“This has been a thoughtful decision I’ve considered for a long time. I feel it’s the right moment to begin a new personal chapter and fully enjoy time with my family after so many demanding years in professional football,” said Alba in a statement on the Inter Miami website.

”I’m very happy with my time at Inter Miami and truly grateful for the support of the fans and for having been part of the team’s successes, sharing special moments in the Club’s growth. Now my goal is to finish the season in the best possible way, giving my all in the playoffs.”

Alba established himself as a household name during his time in Spain, where he starred for Valencia and Barcelona. During his time with Barcelona, he won six La Liga titles, multiple domestic cups, a UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA Club World Cup at the peak of the club’s success.

He also won the 2012 UEFA European Championships, and the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League with Spain.
