Real Madrid confirms Kylian Mbappe will don No.10 jersey ahead of new season

Real Madrid on Tuesday confirmed star forward Kylian Mbappe will wear the No.10 jersey ahead of the new season following the departure of club legend Luka Modric to AC Milan.

Mbappe signed for Los Blancos on a free transfer last summer from Paris Saint-Germain and wore the No.9 jersey in his first season at the club.

Mbappe last played with the No.10 jersey during his final season with AS Monaco before his switch to the Paris-based team. After sporting 29 in his first season for the current French champion, the French forward wore the 17 and 7 in subsequent years.

The number 10 jersey at Madrid was earlier worn by James Rodriguez, Mesut Ozil and UEFA Champions League winner Luis Figo among others. The last frenchman to don the number was midfielder Lassana Diarra between 2009 and 2011.
