Lionel Messi was subbed off early in the first half of Inter Miami’s Leagues Cup 2025 group stage match against Necaxa at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Sunday after suffering an injury.

Eight minutes into the clash, Messi went to the ground near the touchline and received treatment for about three minutes before being replaced by Federico Redondo.
While the nature of the injury is yet to be confirmed, it seemed to have occurred when he was crowded and brought down by opposition players while trying to carry the ball into the Necaxa box. Following this, he slammed his fist in frustration before walking toward midfield and going to the ground.
The Argentine looked dismayed as he handed the captain’s armband to Sergio Busquets and headed straight into the tunnel following his substitution.
The 38-year-old has been the standout performer for Miami this season with 24 goals and 10 assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.
