The All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced on Saturday that referees’ contracts would be extended in accordance with procedure after it received a letter from nine referees requesting it to do so.
In a statement released on Saturday, the AIFF said that it had received it a joint letter from nine referees on August 5 requesting it to extend its professional match contracts due on August 31.
It subsequently confirmed that these contracts would be extended in accordance with established procedures.
“The AIFF would like to assure that these contracts shall be renewed in accordance with the established procedures, subject to the existing process of the Elite Referees’ Development Programme,” the statement said.

It also encouraged calm, noting that referees were engaged in the AIFF’s current ongoing activities including the Durand Cup and Futsal Club Championship, along with the a variety of age-group football tournaments and camps.
““The AIFF urges all parties to remain calm, as several competitions are currently ongoing, where many of our referees are officiating in matches, like in Durand Cup, and the Futsal Club Championship,” said the statement.
The statement comes in the backdrop of uncertainty about the status of the Indian football calendar for the 2025-26 season. In a recent press conference, AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey confirmed that the Super Cup would be held before the Indian Super League.
Multiple clubs including Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC have suspended activities to differing degrees amidst a lack of clarity about how the season will proceed.
