East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan: Bruzon gives update on Jay Gupta, PV Vishnu before Kolkata derby

Ahead of the Kolkata Derby against Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal head coach Oscar Bruzon said that new signing Jay Gupta will not be available for the Durand Cup 2025 quarterfinal match.

Bruzon also said forward PV Vishnu is likely to be part of the matchday squad after the Kerala player gradually inches closer to attaining match fitness after recovering from an injury.

“So regarding the privacy of our practices, if you see two days back, all the details were leaked. I cannot disclose the details but I can tell you that registration in Durand Cup requires 48 hours before the game, so I can confirm that Jay is probably not going to be there tomorrow,” the coach said, also addressing concerns around instances of details getting leaked from East Bengal’s training sessions.

“Vishnu is not totally fit as he has been recovering from an ankle injury. Tomorrow maybe he will be on the bench and he can play for some minutes. Apart from that, all the other players are available for us,” Bruzon added.

Palestine midfielder Mohammed Rashid will also be unavailable for the match. He flew back home after his father passed away.

Sunday’s match will be the first Kolkata derby in the Durand Cup since both sides met last in 2023 during the group stage and in the final.
