Sinner and Alcaraz are set to face each other for the fourth time this year and like the previous three meetings, this one, in Cincinnati, will also be a final.
Alcaraz had beaten Sinner in straight sets in the the Italian Open final in Rome. It was the World No. 1’s first event after serving a three-month doping ban. The Spaniard again got the better of Sinner but by the barest of margins as he saved multiple championship points in the French Open summit clash.
Sinner ended a five-match losing streak against Alcaraz and got his revenge for the Roland Garros heartbreak as he took down the two-time defending champion in the Wimbledon final.
Cincinnati Open is the first tournament for both the players since the final at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.
Sinner, the defending champion, has been in superb form as he has reached the title clash without dropping a set. He is on a 26-match winning streak on the hard courts. His last defeat on the surface came against Alcaraz in the China Open 2024 final in Beijing.
For Alcaraz, the route to the final hasn’t been as smooth as Sinner’s as he was taking to deciding sets in the round of 64 by Damir Dzumhur as well as by Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals. It will be his first Masters 1000 final on a hard court since he won the Indian Wells title last year.
