South African all-rounder Prenelan Subrayen was reported with a suspect bowling after the Proteas’ 98-run victory in the first ODI of its three-match series against Australia.
An ICC statement said that match officials had raised concerns with the off-spinner’s bowling action in the match report. Subrayen will now undergo an independent assessment of his action at an ICC accredited facility to determine its legality.
Subrayen was a critical part of South Africa’s victory on his ODI debut on Tuesday, bowling his complete allocation of ten overs for 46 runs, while also accounting for the wicket of Travis Head. He combined effectively with Keshav Maharaj to suffocate Australia as it collapsed in pursuit of 297.
Subrayen has just entered the stage of international cricket, taking four wicket on his red-ball debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, before making his white-ball debut against Australia on Tuesday.
Should Subrayen miss the remaining ODIs, fast-bowling all-rounder Corbin Bosch, and left-arm spinner Senuran Muthuswamy are the most likely candidates to take his place.
